While the McDonald family has been producing beef in Australia since 1827, 2008 saw the
first shipment of the new “Wallumba” branded product. The tender juicy beef comes from our own herd of 170,000 head of cattle born and bred on our expansive northern Australian cattle stations.
The cattle graze on a variety of natural pastures and then are grain finished at our “Wallumba” feedlot on Queensland’s Darling Downs.
The beef is then processed at JBS Rockhampton, Establishment No. 384. For enquires regarding “Wallumba” Beef, contact our beef sales team on beefsales@mdh.net.au
Processed and Packed According to our Specifications at Establishment 384

We regularly liaise with the abattoir regarding our cut specifications, packing and loadout requirements. Establishment 384 is located at Rockhampton.
Branded Beef
We are proud of our operation which encompasses producing quality beef from paddock to plate. On birth we brand and electronically tag our cattle for identification and traceability purposes. Once our beef is processed we brand the beef “Wallumba” to establish recognition of our product. We believe this proves we are proud of our product and that we are willing to stand behind our brand.
Lifetime Traceability
MDH Pty Ltd is spread across 11cattle stations in Queensland, our cattle are bred in the Cape York Peninsula area, backgrounded in the Winton/Cloncurry/Bouliadistricts and then finished on grain at our feedlot on the Darling Downs. All cattle are issued with an electronic tag at birth, each time the animals are moved to a new location their individual identification numbers are recorded and stored in a nationwide database. Should the need arise, we could identify where each animal was located throughout its entire lifetime.
Raised on Natural Pasture
Our cattle are born and raised on predominantly native pasture in an extensive grazing environment. Our pastoral holding covers 3.36 million hectares, we take responsibility for managing the cattle grazing these holdings, along with managing the soil, pasture, water and woodlands to ensure the longevity of our environment and the beef industry.
Grain Fed 100 Days at “Wallumba Feedlot”
Grain Fed 100 Day Certification proves these cattle have been at our AUS-MEAT and AQIS Accredited feedlot “Wallumba” for at least 100 days. Whist at “Wallumba” they are fed a nutritionally balanced ration that is recognized for being a high energy feed. The Grain Fed Certificate also guarantees that the beef has passed several meat quality assessment criteria such as: P8 fat depth, meat colour, fat colour and the animals have passed dentition and ossification assessments.
Reliability and Consistency of Supply
Our involvement in all aspects of the production process allows timely action to be taken to achieve optimal results and is a guarantee to our customers that our beef orders will be supplied in full, on time, to specifications. Finishing our cattle on grain gives us the ability to ensure they are in ideal condition for processing and maintain consistency in our product. We are currently processing 480 grain fed cattle each fortnight.
Value for money
We do not claim to have a niche product but rather we are offering a wholesome, recognizable product that has been raised by a north Queensland family who values quality, consistency and value for money.
